Right to Play

March 1st, 2011

For those of you who are on our mailing lists, you’ll know that we started the Chinese new year with a pledge to donate 2% of our sales from the month of February to a great not for profit group called Right to Play, China.

Right to Play’s mission is to improve the lives of children in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the world by using the power of sport and play for development, health and peace. From Right to Play’s website here is what they say about why they are in China:

China has undergone considerable development in recent years. Since the early 1980’s, market reforms have contributed to the steady growth of the economy, which has allowed for considerable improvements in human development throughout the country. Yet even with these achievements, China still confronts substantial challenges. Economic and human development in the country is grossly imbalanced, with large urban-rural and inter-regional disparities.

Alongside China’s booming economic growth there has been a parallel growth in the number of children in need of special care. These include migrant children, left-behind children, street children, orphans, children affected by HIV, children with disabilities and rural girls. Constituting a significant proportion of China’s 352 million children under the age of eighteen, these children are amongst the most vulnerable and marginalized and require specific measures to ensure their physical, emotional and social well being.

We’re proud of the success we’ve had in our first year in Hong Kong and being able to give back to a great group like Right to Play makes us feel even better.  We thank you sincerely for helping us along the way.

Cheers, Mandy & Jay
